The articles on Bread for the Bride are all written (unless  otherwise stated) by me, Cheryl McGrath.  Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, I became a follower of Jesus Christ in 1963 at the tender age of 13 years.  I’ll leave you to figure out the math.

My journey as a Christian has led me through a diversity of church settings and worship styles across denominational, Pentecostal, and Charismatic expressions of local church life. I was also highly involved in leading a house church for several years and in teaching conferences on prophetic intercession and prayer in various venues in Australia and New Zealand.  

In 2001, after nearly forty years of church attendance, in which I had witnessed both the best and worst of local church life,  I sensed a calling from God to come aside and seek His heart for the next stage of my journey with Him.  My vision was already becoming increasingly attuned to broader Kingdom issues focused beyond traditional local church settings.  After much prayer and waiting, to my surprise Christ called me away from institutional church attendance and into a wilderness experience with Him.  And so began a deeply intimate, wonderfully intriguing and often unpredictable adventure in getting to know Jesus Christ more deeply and completely than at any time during my long years in institutional churches.  It is an adventure that continues to this hour. 

I have been privileged to minister to Christ followers through prophetic teaching and preaching in a number of  ‘off the beaten track’  locations in Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and have loved leading small teams of women on short term missions on some of these occasions.  The joy of witnessing these women learning to release their own spiritual gifts to the wider church has been something very special and precious to me.  The full release of women into all aspects of church life and leadership roles, as well as their healing from centuries of spiritual oppression,  remains one of my chief passions.

In 2012 I began a writing ministry through this blogsite, Bread for the Bride.  My deep passion and my current calling is to awaken, edify, encourage, equip and strengthen the Bride of Christ worldwide and help establish her on a firm foundation of Christ Jesus.  As such, a significant  part of this ministry is directed toward those disciples of Christ who have been burned out, turned off, or simply left spiritually hungry by institutional Christianity, and who find themselves in what is commonly called ‘a spiritual wilderness‘.  I do this while continuing my own Christ-journey from outside the walls of organised Christianity, walking alongside those I seek to encourage. 

Having raised our own four children to adulthood, my husband and I now live along with our three inquisitive Springer Spaniels in northern New South Wales, Australia.

  1. Dear Cheryl,

    Back in 2005 I came across “The Terrain Has Changed,” a Word you received from the Lord on January 31st, 2005. I believe I may have even contacted you about it not long after that. Since then, I have shared it with many fellow believers at that pivotal moment in their walk when they have begun to awaken to their Bridal identity. Each time the Lord prompts me to share it, I pull it out and re-read it before passing it on, finding it more powerful than ever for edification in the season we are in at the time. I pulled it out recently–for the first time since early 2020. It was for two precious sisters in the Lord, Candy and Laynee. I am confident that it will provide much needed bread from the Lord in the season they each find themselves in. All glory to our Lord Jesus Christ!

    After nearly 17 years I again thank you for being faithful to share this back in 2005. For me, it has been like a pebble cast into a pond, with the ripples ever expanding outward, until our Bridegroom returns.

  2. Hi Cheryl, I popped back here just now to look at your About page, as I couldn’t remember exactly where you lived. I just knew it was a foreign country. Anyway – I used to have a purebred Springer Spaniel myself. For years I did “agility” with her as a sport. I love Spaniels, but the breed has quite an intense energy level, for sure. 🙂

    I cannot even begin to describe How needed and blessed your writings are, in this day and age. I first stumbled on your writings on Lovestthoume.com, and immediately I sensed the same Holy Spirit speaking in You, that was speaking to me. I am a Christ follower, is what I say when people ask what church I go to. They often cannot understand this. I used to think I was alone in this, Now I know others have walked that path before me.

  7. It has been a long while since I have stumbled upon such insight. I only wish I had discovered this when the Lord began to lead me into the wilderness. Today, I sought the Lord as to what He may be doing in my life. He led me to your blog site, and now I fully understand what is going on. My 16 year old daughter has also been led with me in this place. Now I can share with her what is taking place, so she can also work with the Lord. It is not easy to be in the wilderness when others in leadership look down upon us as if we are in some grave sin. The stripping away has been scary, and I would often wonder if I did something bad or was being punished by God. Now, I don’t feel that way thanks to your blog.     • Hi Lisa, Thankyou for taking time to visit and comment. There are many people walking this wilderness journey worldwide. I guess I know that because I hear from so many of them, by email or comments like yours on this blog. You are right, the stripping away is not easy and institutional religion has trained us to think we must be in the wrong or being punished by God when we find ourselves ‘called out’ of organised Christianity. That’s why it’s important to seek encouragement from others on the same journey. Please check out the blogs of others that I have listed on the home page also. These are blogs of people I have discovered along the way who demonstrate a love for Christ and desire to follow Him wholeheartedly. I hope the articles on Bread for the Bride will prove a rich source of encouragement and edification to you and your daughter.

  9. I really loved “Gadarene”, but couldn’t figure out where the comment place was–so I’m saying it here: powerful and beautifully lyrical telling of that amazing story. I relate so personally to, “He saved my mind and stole my heart”–Blessed is the Name of the Lord. And bless you today–jael-caddo

    • Yes, hard to imagine the reverse too 🙂 We have been enjoying summer but now there are catastrophic bushfire alerts in the southern states (not where I am at the moment). It will head closer to us tomorrow apparently. Take care in the snow!
